“an all-immersive, unbelievably rich guide to the historical landmark... an immense repository of information about Stonehenge...and one we can’t recommend enough for the price” - iPhoneappreview.com

“an absorbing immersive experience”, “appreciate the site’s beauty without the accompaniment of tourists or druids” - The New Scientist

“a tour of the ancient stones free of the fences that surround them today...offering a window into the past” - The Times of London

“These are the kind of apps that get me all giddy inside. Sure, fighting demons and building towers is fun. But when an app takes full advantage of the available technology to help you learn about a topic, I’m ecstatic.” - Gizmodo, app of the day

The Stonehenge Experience app is an awesome new way to experience Stonehenge. You’ll be immersed in the sights, sounds and gory remains of Stone Age Britain in and around the Stonehenge UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you can’t get to Stonehenge, or would love to go back, you can now experience the thrill of being there in your own living room. We’ve integrated the latest in augmented reality, 3D gaming and mobile technology to really bring the site to life for you and to reveal its mysteries.

The app uses augmented reality technology to be aware of your location, direction and phone angle so if you’re at Stonehenge and you point your phone towards the stones it layers into your camera view a high quality computer generated reconstruction of the monument. You can either sit back and watch our direction, or you can take control, pinch to zoom and swipe, and create your own fully interactive and engaging experience.

You’ll digitally excavate prehistoric artefacts, including a gruesome flesh hook and an amazing solid gold breast plate, which tell the stories of life around Stonehenge in Prehistoric times. By rubbing your finger over the map, you will gradually unearth the objects where they were first found in the landscape.

You’ll be taken through a series of experiences as you wander around the site, to help you start to really understand this ancient mystery and where it sits in its landscape. You will see the stones reconstructed, learn how they evolved through thousands of years of history, explore how the stones were erected, and see how Stonehenge is in fact just a small part of the wider UNESCO World Heritage Site landscape.

The Stonehenge monument is perfectly aligned with the sunrise on the summer solstice and the sunset on the winter solstice but most visitors don’t get to experience this thanks to the Great British weather. To make things worse, for the vast majority of the time visitors to Stonehenge are kept at a far distance from the stones and not allowed to stand in the centre of the monument. The app lets you stand within the stones and physically move about, using the iPhone and iPad’s gyroscope, compass and accelerometer, and to hear the sound of the stones using pioneering acoustic modelling from Rupert Till, Senior Lecturer in Music Technology at the University of Huddersfield.

“Creating the sound of Stonehenge as it was when it was first built was a really interesting challenge. When put together with the Ribui app it makes for an absorbing immersive experience and allows people to see and hear Stonehenge as it was five thousand years ago.”

The app incorporates some of the latest archaeological findings, providing you with up to date explanations of the site’s purpose, based on robust and respected academic theory.

The Stonehenge Experience is ideal for the iPhone 3GS and later and the iPad.
